Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was a leader. He was an American Baptist minister and activist who challenged the status quo with his call for racial and economic equality. Although African Americans were legally free citizens of America, laws were enforced to ensure that they faced social, economic and political oppression.
